For We are God's masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
To sit an admire a painting, listen to a piece of music, or simply playing with Play do can be so inspiring. It can also bring about questions. For example, how did they do that or create that? Some may even say why would someone create that?
I work in a ceramic shop, and personally it is fun! I create different things each time I go to work. Somethings are for gifts, and others may be for a use like a cup. But every thing I create has some kind of goal in mind. There is a purpose for each project. Just as God has a purpose, a goal in mind, for us.
We are God's masterpiece, workmanship. In Ephesians 2:10 it states we are God's masterpiece created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared for in advance that we should walk in them. We have a purpose, a job, some sort of beauty. God put in us a desire and the skills to do the goods works He has prepared for us, for the beauty of His plan to come through.
I love Play do. It's soft, and squishy, but the best part is you can create so much with a lump of Play do. And if you don't like it or if it is not quite right you can squish it and start all over again. I love it!!
We are like Play do for God. When our hearts are soft and willing God can create so much in our lives. He can mold us and transform us into His image. He can create us for a purpose. The best thing is, just like Play do, our lives start out lumpy and can go lumpy at times. Let's re-read that, our lives can start out lumpy and go lumpy at times.
That means we don't have to be perfect. It means the good works come after Christ dwells within us. It means we don't have to have it all together before we go to God. We can (probably will) have it all lumpy when we go to God and HE puts creates in us the masterpiece.
Is that not an amazing thought?! God will bring the good works, the desire to move forward, out of me. It is through Him, His Son that I do the things I do on a daily basis. It is only because of His love for me, and the grace He gives me that I can complete the tasks He planned out for me.
Play do can't form itself, a masterpiece can't be painted on it's own, or a cup can't be molded on it's own. But if all that could happen it might be interesting, you might say a bit cool. Could you imagine a painting painting itself or Play do forming into a snail all on it's own. You could just sit back and watch it happen. Wow what a treat! Or is it? There might be one catch- what if that is not what you want out of the painting or Play do? What if you had another purpose in mind?
God has a vision, a purpose, a laid out plan for each one of us. He has something for our lives to create so we become more like Him. And if we keep trying to do the work first.... Well you get the idea. It makes it a bit harder for God, and a little more time consuming.
God wants to mold us. He wants the most for us. He wants to create a masterpiece in us to bring beauty into our lives, to bring His glory to the forefront. He wants to prepare the way so we can walk daily with Him with His plan in mind. And if we keep trying to create our own ideas, just like the Play do or the painting it might not turn out as much of a masterpiece has what God has us planned for.
Take a step back, take a deep breathe, and allow God to create in you the masterpiece of a lifetime, the vision of Christ through you.
Let's pray-
God You are the Artist in my life. You come into this heart and take the hard pieces making them soft and create something beautiful. Through You my life can be a masterpiece. Help me Lord to remember that it is through Your grace the fruits of good works is produced It is through Your grace that I can walk daily through the plan that You lay out before me. Guide me, lead me and mold me into the image You want me to be. Bring me the daily strength to lean into You so that some day Your masterpiece will be complete.
In Your precious name,
Amen.
